News Quiksilver and Spencer Hargraves back Joe Way

[Joe Way]

Skins "King of the Groms" Contest and Spencer Hargraves raise £800 by Matt Way

26/08/2008:// Once again the surfing community stepped up to remember Newquay boy Joe Way by raising money and promoting his story to inspire others.

Sue Butler and Spencer Hargraves mum Chris Hargraves walked Fistral beach asking for donations in return for a quicksilver t-shirt.

The dynamic babes said "The contest along with the weather was great and we found so many people on the beach ready to help and asking about the website it was a great day for everyone"

The collection continued from a previous event with Quicksilver and Matt Joe's Dad came along to the evening event to meet to Spencer and his family and say a few words of thanks to all the surfers, organisers and Groms who where rocking.

Matt said "to see all these people helping and having such a good time was fantastic, thanks to everyone who have kept us on track with a fundraising target of £1000 per week since the website launched four weeks after Joe died"

As the money was presented to Matt surfers were still shoving notes into the bucket and cheering.

32 Pro Surfers, went head to head until only one man was standing to receive his healthy prize money of £700 PLUS a classic Gibson Guitar. Rock n Roll!

Nathan Phillips and Alan Stokes are just some of the UK's pro's competiting over the weekend.

Local surfing legend Spencer Hargraves, is the Contest Director who's brainchild this inaugural Skins event is, said "This Skins event will be the first time Newquay has seen an event like this for a long time. It'll be great for the surfers and spectators alike and its nice to be able to run this kind of event so the surfers don't have a lot of pressure and can really go for it !!! It will bring surfing home to Fistral on the biggest weekend of the year. Surfers can really rack up the money, so they'll be stoked to have an opportunity to have fun and compete in this type of contest, which will really keep the spectators on the beach interested too."

Joes present was also at the beach rugby event at Lusty Glaze with players wearing shirts with his logo on and the banner over looking the event from the cliffs.

If you have a crazy way to get Joe's web address out there or raise money then email info@joeway.co.uk.
