07/07/2008:// Donachie, from St Merryn, was the highest =placed British surfer at the Euruopean finals in France last year.
Donachie has been competing seriously for the last few years and his career took off when in 2006 when he made a big splash on the junior contest scene, upsetting all of the usual winners to become the clear best surfer in his age group.
He topped this peer-crushing year with a very respectable 4th place at the European Championships.
The Fistral Beach event is the last in the three event series in which the winners progress to the next stage of the competition in mainland Europe.
Jersey's Matt Chapman, Ben Bates and Nathan Elms are already through having won the Channel Islands leg.
The second round of competition was held in Ireland.
The final will be staged at the French beachbreak of Capbreton in France ahead of the world final at Hossegor in September.
For over 15 years, Quiksilver has been bringing the world's top young surfers together in Capbreton to compete in what is internationally recognised as the leading tournament for the under-16's age group.
Originally open only to under-21's (Pro Junior), the competition has launched the careers of some of the best surfers of the day, including Danny Wills, Taj Burrow (currently leading the WCT), the Frenchmen Miky Picon and Jérémy Florès, the only European to have qualified for this season's WCT.
The King of the Groms is a popular event for international young surfers aged 16 and under, who aspire to a professional career.

Some of the biggest and potentially costly upsets of the season went down today while Round 3 of the Beachley Classic
Nearly half of the Costa Rica National Surf Team hit the water today in Costa de Caprica, in the province of Almeda, Portugal, kicking off their part of the competition in the 2008 International Surfing Association (ISA) World Surfing Games (WSG).
