19/11/2007:// From 14 December all surfers flying on XL.com’s new route from Gatwick to West of Ireland Knock can bring a surfboard for free.
The West Coast of Ireland is one of Europe’s top big wave surf destinations and XL.com’s “Surf for Free” initiative is available to all surfers travelling to Ireland West Airport Knock*. Karen Walton, director at the British Surfing Association comments: "We wholeheartedly welcome this announcement; it's great to see an airline that not only caters for surfing but actively encourages it.”
UK surf legend Russell Winter says: “Having an airline offer a free board transfer service is fantastic, especially one that is offering flights to the West Coast of Ireland which is an undiscovered must-surf spot with some incredible waves.”
Surfers can also enjoy easy board transfers and affordable round-trip airfares with XL.com to other amazing surfing destinations such as Barbados, Portugal and Lanzarote, as well as wind and kite surfing areas of Greece, Egypt, Fuerteventura, Turkey and Spain. Each one way flight to any of these destinations, plus a whole host of other surf spots, has a small fee of £15 for surfboards and £22.50 for windsurf boards – but to West Ireland Knock, XL.com will do both for free, with flights from just £25 one way and £37 return (inclusive of fuel and taxes).
In response to huge customer demand, XL.com the UK’s third largest travel company, will be the only airline to fly from London Gatwick to Ireland West Airport Knock from 14th December 2007.
