News WiLDCOAST auctions John from Cincinnati

Axed HBO series still generates profit for coastal protection by Serge Dedina

13/11/2007:// John from Cincinnati (JFC), the groundbreaking television series about the Yost surfing clan in Imperial Beach, California, might have been cancelled by HBO, but it is still benefiting coastal protection efforts in California and Baja.

WiLDCOAST will auction the iconic surfboards surfed by Butchie (Brian Van Holt), Kai (Keala Kennelly) and Shaun (Greyson Fletcher). All proceeds will benefit WiLDCOAST coastal conservation programs in both the U.S. and Mexico.

Included in the auction items is the BEAST board ridden by Butchie as well as the Wild Card boards shaped for the show.

"We are stoked that once again the John from Cincinnati team have supported the conservation efforts of WiLDCOAST through their donation of these super cool boards," said WiLDCOAST Executive Director Serge Dedina. "From the very beginning, David Milch and his entire cast and crew have been extremely supportive of our efforts to protect the coast."

During the JFC location shoot in Imperial Beach, WiLDCOAST staff consulted closely with the production team on community relations, identifying suitable locations, monitoring water quality during surfing scenes, and assisting with logistical operations in Mexico and along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Last Spring JFC star Bruce Greenwood, filmed a PSA for WiLDCOAST in character as Mitch Yost. Grants from John from Cincinnati to WiLDCOAST supported the Clean Water Now campaign and helped provide scholarships for low-income at-risk children to attend Junior Lifeguard camp this past summer. "We were very pleased about how much support the JFC team provided WiLDCOAST," said Dedina.
