Expression sessions go ahead in Cornwall
by George Mojo
08/11/2007:// The ten top seeds on the UK Pro Tour will be joined by two wildcards for the Firewire Expression Session in Cornwall.
The event is being staged after the Gul Newquay Open which is the final leg of the British pro season.
Firewire is the board that's got everyone talking, with current world top ten surfer Taj Burrow finding huge success on the WCT as the first ever competitor to ride a non-PU on the ASP circuit.
By replacing the board’s stringer with parabolic balsa rails, Firewire say they've created the next generation of boards, which flex at the start of the turn and rebound through the turn, releasing energy as extra power and speed.
Sam Lamiroy, Llewellyn Whittaker and Russell Winter will be among the 12 surfers taking part in the two 25 minute heats of 6 riders each at Newquay's Fistral Beach. First prize will be awarded for the 'Best Wave' overall.
Firewire Marketing manager, Catherine James said:“We believe the best way to prove that the boards are new and different is to get the Pros riding them in a competitive situation. We really think they’ll pull out some radical manoeuvres and demonstrate what Firewire is all about.”
Cornwall's Russell Winter has had a superb start at the Buondi Billabong Pro in Portugal notching up one of the top four heat scores of the competition so far
