by George Mojo
26/09/2007:// Bude's Josh Ash led a Cornish one-two to take top honours in the Jesus Surf Classic in North Devon. Ash regained the title he last one on 2002 with a superb display of power surfing in the 2-3ft waves at Croyde Bay and finished just ahead of Jayce Robinson from St Ives.
Paignton's Gary Wells, who now lives in Newquay, was third in the final with Cornishman Tom Butler fourth in what turned out to be a very close final overall..
Butler and Robinson had already made their mark in the competition by the time they reached the main event. The pair featured in the Junior Under 18 final, where Butler just got the edge over Robinson. Constantine Bay's Toby Donachie was third with Jack Butler, fourth.
The Masters division this year was missing one of its stalwarts Jed Stone - due to Work commitments - and last year winner Roger Knight, from Newquay, could not retain the trophy placing third ahead of Braunton's Pete Oram.
Newquay's interest in the final continued with Steve Harvey placing second, but Brauntons Simon Twitchen with a great second to last wave took first place, and became a new name on the trophy..
During the presentations a tribute was made for Chris ( Christine ) Scott, one of the Christian Surfers stalwarts who passed away earlier this year, after being involved with the Organisation for 17 years. Husband Mike presented the trophies.
Once again the Surf Relief Board signed by 120 WQS surfers was on display, and raffle tickets sold. The draw will finally take place in November, and it is hoped around £800 will be raised for the work of Surf Relief UK.

Places still remain in all 4 categories ( Open, Junior, Masters and Women's ) with the winner in the open taking home £250.
