News Haworth takes BLU Junior Title

[Minnow presents Ben with prize]

Top Junior battle at final BLU event by Andy Haworth

16/09/2007:// The weekend of the 15th and 16th of September saw top Junior Longboard surfers from all over the country battling for honours in the last event of the British Longboard Union tour (BLU). The final event of 5 was held at Gwithian, Cornwall in very good 3 foot, clean surf conditions. The contest was even blessed with sun and ended the tour on a high note after some pretty tough and inhospitable weather conditions earlier in the year.

The tour attracts all the top longboarders in the Country and boasts European and other internationally successful surfers amongst its competitors and is supported by major sponsors Oxbow with the last event also supported by Sunset Surf. The weekend’s event even attracted the current French Junior Champion who came over specifically to compete.

The UK’s top Junior, Ben Haworth was once again on form and despite having to work hard to beat the French Champion, did so spectacularly with some high scoring manoeuvres in the good quality surf. The crowning of Ben as the overall BLU Junior Champion was a mere formality however, because he had already secured the championship and couldn’t be beaten after the fourth event. Ben also managed to finish a very respectable 5th in the Open category and looks forward to further success as this is his last year as a junior.

Ben was presented with his trophy by Contest Director Minnow Green along with a prize of an Indo Board.
