Animal Surf Academy resident expert

16/08/2007:// Cornwall's England international surfer Alan Stokes will be at the Animal Surf Academy this weekend giving out hints and tips to budding surfers, and introducing first timers to the sport.
The Newquay Boardmasters is over and there was some top surf action, but people wanting to try surfing themselves in the company of the Newquay surfer in North Cornwall.
Stokes usually competes at the Boardmasters competition, but was forced out of the contest due to injury – luckily he is still able to attend this weekend's action at the Animal Rider Workshops in Newquay and Polzeath.
The former English champion will be on hand to give out hints and tips in the water, and there will then be a chance to ask the surf pro questions about his career, competition tactics, surf equipment, travels and for any surf advice.
'Stokesy' has carved himself a career from surfing and now spends his time travelling the world competing and surf training.
He is currently on the front page of Cornish-based surf magazine, Carve, and this weekend he will exclusively be at the Academy.
Surfing enjoys huge popularity in the South of England with 66 per cent of the 300,000 UK surf population based in the area.
A number of up and coming young surfers now come from the South West and benefit from the healthy lifestyle and exercise involved in participating in the sport.
The Academy is based in two locations, Newquay and Polzeath. The ASA runs lessons for first timers, improvers and developers and exclusive days with the Animal team riders.
