Alan Stokes clinches third English title by George Mojo

28/05/2005:// British professional champion Alan Stokes has clinched the English title for the third time.

The Animal/Solomen team rider was in devastating form at his home break of Watergate Bay, in Newquay to secure the Open crown.

It was a well-worked victory for the Cornishman who outsurfed fellow Newquay surfer Shaun Skilton, Ruebin Pearce and Constantine Bay's Micah Lester.

The women's title also stayed in Cornwall with Nicola Bunt holding off her close friend and fellow St. Agnes surfer Dominique Munroe in the final.

Rip Curl rider Reubyn Ash, from Bude, also won his category, the Junior division, ahead of young rippers Tom Butler, Adam Thornton and team-mate Jayce Robinson.

Jersey's Ben Skinner came out on top of the closest final in the Longboard category as he went wave for wave against Newquay's Lee Ryan, Joe Howell and Watergate local Adam Zervais.

There was an exceptional performance from Jamie Owen who took both the Senior (over 28) and Masters (Over 35) titles and because of his life long achievements in competitive surfing he was also awarded the Randall Davies Memorial trophy.

Tom Butler took the Cadet (under 16) title and was also awarded the Dave Gent Memorial Cup for the best performance from a Newquay junior.

The Davidoff Cool Water Tag Team event went to Team Bude which consisted of open surfers Reubin Pearce and Joss Ash, Junior Reubyn Ash, woman Nicola Bunt and Longboarder Chris Thompson.
