News Haworth has apetite for Hotdoggers

[Eric Davies]

Defending champion on a role by George Mojo

12/07/2007:// Defending Hotdoggers champion Ben Haworth is on a roll after winning the North Devon longboard club's third event of the season.

Haworth, who has already clinched the BLU title ahead of the final contest in Hayle, styled to victory in the Errant / Second Skin Open final in 2-3ft slightly onshore waves at Saunton Sands.

The Braunton surfer defeated Greg Robinson, Phil Hill and Tim Aylett to take the honours.

British champion Adrian Howell showed his class in the Masters event to edge out Bournemouth's Eric Davies, Bean Keay and Norman Wright.

Kim Haworth made no mistakes in the women's final to take top spot from Anna Harriott, Hazel Ilet and Rebecca Pepperell.

The junior final was hotly contested with Oscar Maddox eventually sealing the win with a smooth display of longboard riding from Tom Major, Fergus Bradford and Matt Baldwin.

The Hotdoggers Underdog Errant / Second Skin event was held in slightly smaller 1-2 foot waves, also at Saunton.

Richard Unsworth edging out Kim Haworth in the Open to deny her a second victory in two days. Steve Hart was third with Duncan Clarke in fourth.

The Over-50s was won by Tony Allsopp.

Longtime Hotdoggers stalwart Eric Davies said: "50 members and competitors turned up for the club evening held in the White Lion, in Braunton, for a curry and few beers - happy days - its what being in a surf club is all about."

The league attracts surfers from all the region and is a firm part of the South West contest calendar.
