Auction helps Tsunami victims by George Mojo

28/05/2005:// A charity surf auction in Newquay raised almost �12,500 towards regeneration projects in tsunami affected Sri Lanka and Indonesia.

More than 40 donated lots went under the hammer, directed by father and son auctioneer team Brian and Bradley Start.

An original Damien Hirst painting donated by the artist, was the subject of intense interest and was eventually sold to an Italian collector for �6,700.

The auction was organized by Tsunami Surf Relief UK (TSRUK) in association with Carve magazine and is one of a series of fundraising events planned by surfers and the surf industry for this year. It brings the total raised by the group to over �30,000.
