26/04/2007:// Briton Alan Stokes put on an impressive performance to win his opening heat at Scotland's richest surfing contest.

The Cornish surfer is rewarded with a clash against American trio Shea Lopez, Asher Nolan and Mike Todd.
Geordie Sam Lamiroy and Johnny Fryer from the Isle of Wight also made it through to the last 96 of the 6star WQS event.
Lamiroy made the most of the quality 6-7ft waves at Brimms Ness to notch up 10 points from his two highest waves to finish runner up to Australian Jack Perry.
The current British Open champion made sure of qualifying with a high-scoring wave in the last seconds of his heat.
Fryer put in similarly confident performance to finish behind Hawaiian Hank Gaskell in his opener.
Lamiroy, a former British Student title holder, is now pitted against South African Damien Fahrenfort, Frenchman Mickael Picon and Hizunome Bettero, from Brazil.
While Fryer comes face to face with Scottish hopeful and Thurso legend Chris Noble, Portugal's Tiago Pires and American Dane Reynolds.
Defending champion Russell Winter goes in heat 15 of round two along with fellow British hopeful Oli Adams.
The top British seed and Adams are both virtually full time on the WQS pro tour this season.
Their opponents are South American's Jean da Silva and Heitor Pereira.
Elsewhere, former WCT campaigner Nathan Hedge was another standout using his beautiful carving surfing to draw his way on the hollow sections at Brims Ness.
The weather changed in the middle of the afternoon, and even though the wind turned onshore, officials made the move to Brims' classic "Bowl", giving the competitors another great option.
Current European leader and WQS top 10 member Frenchman Tim Boal also won his heat: "I'm glad to make it, I feel comfotable in these conditions as I've been free surfing a lot around the place. Just hope to get a good result here".
