News The Moskito Tour 2007

Fistral Beach, Newquay 2-3 June 2007 by Howard Swanwick

25/04/2007:// The Moskito Surf Tour 2007 presented by Electric, Santa Cruz, Globe and FCS is coming to the UK!

Created in 2001 the annual Moskito Tour hosted by Electric has become an established part of the French and Spanish surfing calendars for young kids of all levels.

Now in its seventh year Electric’s Moskito Tour of kids surf events has expanded its legs to include, for the first time, the UK.

The Moskito Tour 2007 will have seven stops across Europe, from April to August, featuring events in Spain, France, Portugal and England where the event will be held at the infamous Fistral Beach (Newquay) - the home of competitive surfing in the UK.

Planned for the 2/3 June, the UK leg of the Moskito tour is a great starting block for any aspiring surfing professional to test their skills in the competitive field and a good opportunity for more experienced competitors to hone their skills in a mixed field of competitors, not to mention the possibility of bagging some great prizes.

With divisions for both girls and boys the 2 day events are guaranteed to be action packed with surfing heats running throughout both days culminating in the final planned to be held at the end of the weekend.

The Electric crew, including American team rider Matt “Ratt” Schrodetz, will be on hand at Fistral beach throughout the event offering advice and tips to the kids about all the latest maneuvers in high performance surfing. Phil Richardson, Marketing Manager at Electric Europe, said “I want to develop surfing at a grassroots level that is why our emphasis is on youth surfing, we also have a girls division now as surfing is a sport for everyone. Our aim is to initiate kids into a professionally run event in partnership with the local surf club, luckily for us the BSA will be helping us run the event in the UK.

Competitors will receive prizes from event sponsors, ranging from clothing and wetsuits to new surfboards and Electric’s latest shades. Various giveaways and other activities will be held throughout the weekend including a raffle offering people the opportunity to win a one-off Santa Cruz G-Deck surfboard – the first G-Deck to roll off the production line in Europe! The board will also feature original artwork from acclaimed artist Nathaniel Jones (Globe) making it a truly collectable piece!

To see the cream of the UK’s next generation of surfers come down to Fistral Beach on the 2/3 June and rock out with Electric!
