Newquay's Adam Griffiths has taken an early lead

21/04/2007:// Newquay's Adam Griffiths has taken an early lead in the British Longboard Union's Open division after winning the first event of the season in Cornwall.
Griffiths, a past junior title holder, styled to victory at the Oxbow Bathsheba BLU1 at Perranporth, to pick up maximum series points in a competitive final.
The well-established Cornish star was pushed hard all the way by Sennen's James Parry in the beachbreak waves but his past competition experience paid dividends.
Porthtowan's Dan Harris made it a clean sweep for Cornwall while former Welsh champion and longboard legend Chris "Guts" Griffiths finished in fourth place.
Griffiths, was Swansea, riding one of this own-shaped boards showed some great touches to take victory in the Masters final.
The Jethro Tull fan struck just the right chord in the surf conditions to overcome Newquay lifeguard Adam Zervas.
It was a much closer affair for third and fourth place, with Welshman Colin Bright edging out Eric Davies for a podium finish following a countback. The judged had awarded both surfers the same number of points at the end of the final hooter.
Local knowledge helped Louise West into top spot in the women's division taking full advantage of the prevalent surf conditions to put in a masterful display.
Runners-up spot went to the sister of ASP World finalist Ben Skinner, Sophie who just did enough to outpoint fellow Newquayite Candice O'Donnell.
North Devon's Ben Haworth had the perfect start to his longboard season with victory in the juniors.

Open: 1st - Adam Griffiths - Newquay, 2nd - James Parry - Sennen, 3rd - Dan Harris - Porthtowan, 4th - Chris Griffiths - Swansea.
Junior: 1st - Ben Haworth - North Devon, 2nd - Ryan Hammond - Scarborough, 3rd - Brendan Muir - North Devon, 4th - Calum Clarke - Somerset.
Ladies: 1st - Louise West - Perranporth, 2nd - Sophie Skinner - Newquay, 3rd - Candice O'Donnell - Newquay, 4th - Grace Davies - Jersey.
Masters: 1st - Chris Griffiths - Swansea, 2nd - Adam Zervas - Newquay, 3rd - Colin Bright - Wales, 4th - Eric Davies - Bournemouth.
