News Coaching for budding pro's

Freespirit and Carve offer junior training by George Mojo

20/04/2007:// With a new era of professionalism entering the sports of surfing and bodyboarding in the UK, CARVE Surfing Magazine has teamed up with the Freespirit English Surfing Federation Surf School to offer junior surfers and bodyboarders the opportunity to take their first steps to a professional career in their chosen sports.

Two special coaching courses will be held this year at Newquay's Fistral Beach and the best coaching team in Britain will help 10-17 year old surfers and bodyboarders improve not only their riding technique but also their fitness, diet, chances of getting sponsorship and general attitude and approach to a career in
the sport.

Top surf photographer and British Surf Team coach Ester Spears will be on hand to shoot the action and supply pupils with the lifestyle and action images needed to build a sponsorship portfolio.

As well as in-water surf coaching the groms will also receive two video analysis sessions with feedback from top British competitors, fitness and diet coaching and tuition on how to approach sponsors.

The sport of surfing brings £64 million into the Cornish economy each year. The goal of these weekends is to support and develop surfing for future talents and make youngsters aware that a professional career in surfing is a viable possibility if they focus early on their goal.

The first weekend in May is being sponsored by Protest, who are
scanning the talent from the weekend to pick up a new team rider,
offering a 12 month sponsorship deal. Details of other team managers will be given to the groms with their completed portfolios to aid them in their quest to get sponsored.

The courses are being held on May 12/13 and
October 13/14.
