News Vendee date for British Pros

[Russell Winter]

British number one's best chance for points by George Mojo

10/04/2007:// British number one Russell Winter has his best chance so far this season to rack up serious World Qualifying Series pro tour points in France.

Winter, nicknamed the Bulldog for his aggressive surfing style, is one of two Cornish surfers in the draw at the 4star Reef Vendee Pro at La Souzaie, in Bretignolles.

The 31-year-old, from Newquay, is seeded into round two against Hawaiian Nathan Carroll. With only three rounds ahead of the quarter-finals it gives the England international a superb opportunity to make it into the serious points.

In his first three outings on the world tour this year, Winter has failed to find his old form which took him to the top flight World Championship Tour circuit a few years ago.

Winter will use the event as a warm up for the forthcoming top-rated Quiksilver Pro Durban, in South Africa, later this month.

Oli Adams, meanwhile, has battled strongly and put in some solid performances in both Brazil and Australia.

Despite lying outside the top 100 on the rankings, Adams - from Newquay - will also be eager to put more ranking points under his belt.

He goes in heat seven of round one against Spaniard's Pablo Solar and Txaber Trojaola and local surfer Jules Thomet.

Top seeds at the event, include German Marlon Lipke, Spain's Aritz Aranburu and French trio Patrick Bevan, Eric Rebiere, Mikael Picon
