05/04/2007:// An impressive tuberide by top seed Damien Hobgood ended Britain's Oli Adams progress in the Drug Aware Pro, in Western Australian.
The American dominated the third round encounter at Margaret River scoring 8.5 points for his cover-up in challenging 6 to 8ft waves.
Adams, from Newquay, was relegated to fourth place in the heat behind runner up Joan Duru, from France, and American Dean Randazzo.
The Cornish surfer picked up 675 points for his efforts at the six-star contest.
It was Frenchman who put paid to fellow Cornishman Russell Winter's hopes at the event.
The British number one finished third behind fellow former World Championship Tour surfer Mickey Picon, who recorded the highest-scoring heat results tournament so far.
Pikon, from the Southern France Hossegor region, dominated the Surfers Point line-up.
It keeps Picon's hopes of requalifying for the top flight in 2008 alive.
After defeating Winter, a focused Pikon said: "For five years I've been surfing this event and I have never performed well here, so I feel really good about my performance.
"I love the waves here. They allow for powerful surfing and big moves and it suits my style for sure, so hopefully this good start can continue," he added.
Winter earned 750 ranking points for his equal 49th place finish.
The British team has now set off for the World Surfing Games and things became a little nerve-racking before departure due to a last minute personal situation which meant that their invaluable team manager had to pull out
