News Devon Girl Captains Surf Team to Gold Medal

Kim Haworth guides UWE to victory by Andy Haworth

14/03/2007:// At the recent British University Surf Association National Championships in Newquay Cornwall, local Barnstaple girl Kim Haworth captained her girls team to success in taking first place for the team event on behalf of her University, the University of the West of England in Bristol.

Kim from Landkey, is in her final year studies for a psychology degree and has been one of the main stalwarts of the University�s surf club. This is the first major result for the club managing to beat Swansea who took silver and Falmouth getting the Bronze. Kim is the older sister of Ben Haworth, Devons junior surf star and shows the same style and promise in the surf as her younger brother.

Kim and team mate Laura Beale both surfed into the semi finals which enabled the team to collect enough points to narrowly beat Swansea.

Prizes for the medallists included goodie bags from sponsors Gul, a crate of beer from Skinners Ales and a free ferry trip to France from Brittany Ferries.
