News Aloha spirit at Noosa

World's top longboarders hold Paddle Board Clinic by George Mojo

08/03/2007:// Some of the world's top longboarders have held a stand-Up Paddle Board Clinic to support an injured Australian surfer's cause.

Hawaiians Brian Keaulana, Todd Bradley, Dave Parmenter, Dave Kalama, Keone Downing and Bonga Perkins treated a large gathering of Australians to a free clinic today, but the true lesson they delivered was one in the Hawaiian "spirit of Aloha".

Having heard the unfortunate news about local Janet White, the Noosa Malibu Club member who was severely injured in a horrific traffic accident prior to Christmas, the C4 Watermen decided make a donation to the White's cause.

"We are just happy to come and share our knowledge and love for the sea with others, it's really what we are about and we get a lot of enjoyment out of introducing others to the sport and seeing the smiles on their faces when they give it a go", said Keaulana.

Conducted in the tranquil and pristine waters of Noosa Sound, itself only a few hundred metres back from the Noosa Main Beach, a healthy crowd turned up to take part and enjoy the beautiful surrounds.

The Hawaiians supplied all the equipment necessary and those who tried it out for the first time, soon realized just how demanding the sport can be.

SUP requires a surfer to stand upright on a large surfboard, then take an outrigger style oar in hand and use it to not only paddle out into a line up, but also to execute manoeuvres while riding waves.

The Hawaiians have been doing it for a long time and are very good at pushing the envelope, taking on mountainous waves on outer reef breaks which dot the Hawaiian Islands coastline.

"We love getting out there and charging into some of these ocean swells on these, it's a real thrill and so much fun, sometimes you laugh out loud at each other, it's a very different picture to the one here at Noosa", said Todd Bradley.

Brian Keaulana eager to emphasis the benefits of taking on the C4 Waterman. com lifestyle, "We really would like people to become involved in the C4 Waterman.com approach to living life in general too, it can really be beneficial all round", said Brian.
