Britain in top 20 seeds in Australia
by George Mojo
07/03/2007:// Britain's Russell Winter is one of the top 20 seeds going into the Maitland Toyota Open in Australia.
It's the second outing for the Newquay surfer on the 2007 World Qualifying Series Tour.
The 32-year-old finished at the third round stage at the last event in Brazil.
A good result would catapult the British number one into the tour's top 100.
Australian Mick Fanning, who won the opening WCT event of the season at Snapper Rocks and currently heads the top flight rankings, is the top seed at the four star contest being staged at Merewether, in New South Wales.
Fellow British surfer Oli Adams features earlier in the competition.
Twenty-two-year-old Adams, from Newquay, has had a good start to the pro season performing well in his first two events in South America.
Tour leader Spaniard Aritz Arunbu also features at the 6th leg of the world series tour.
Winter and Adams are also due to compete in the Hot Tuna Central Coast Pro - the second of two four star contests in Australia.
It's being staged at Merewether Beach, in Newcastle, New South Wales, immediately after the Maitland Open.
Adams is also on standby for a place in the forthcoming 6star Drug Aware Pro at Margaret River, in Western Australia.
The competition is full, but Adams is among a list of more than 50 surfers on the reserves list.
