News Brits Fly High

British team secure sponsorship deal by George Mojo

17/03/2005:// The British team have secured a two-year sponsorship deal with a South West-based company which will enable surfers to compete abroad.

Bodmin-based Gul International, which has English champion Russell Winter as one of its team riders, is supporting the Junior squad competing at the ISA Junior World Surfing Games at Huntington Beach, California in October.

In 2006, they will also be sponsoring the senior team travelling to North America as they bid to retain their tenth position achieved in the World Surfing Games in Ecuador last year.

This was the highest position for the Squad, which included beating the new host nation of the Games, USA.

Dave Reed, National Director of the British Surfing Association said the sponsorship deal would boost the prospects of the team in competition: "This is great news for the Squad especially the Juniors as it will be the first time for three years a full junior team will represent Britain at those games"

Tom Crawford, Gul Marketing Manager, said: "We are delighted to be continuing our sponsorship of the British Team. The Team worked exceptionally hard to reach tenth place in Ecuador and we are committed to supporting them in their quest to defend this position."
