13/03/2005:// The history of British surfing will feature in an exhibition at two South West musueum's next year.
Surf's Up will chart the sport's development and feature surfing memorabilia across the decades.
It's the brainchild of Cornish surfer and historian Roger Mansfield and has the backing of Exeter's Royal Albert Memorial Museum and the National Maritime Museum Cornwall in Falmouth
A former British surfing champion, Mr Mansfield is appealing for help in finding surfing bits and pieces from days gone by.
"My interest is in gaining a loan for a couple of years of such things as significant T-shirts from competition events, circa 60's & 70's, 1960's British made surf-shorts such as Hang Ten, Force Nine, Alder, early surf leashes, circa 69-71 and original wax blocks," he said
The exhibition would also benefit from any clothing which personifies the surfing character of the 60's.
"Early Typhoon, Spartan, Bilbo or Gul wetsuits ... which were used for surfing, and any invention/contraption which made going surfing easier from 60-70's," added Mr Mansfield.
The first exhibition is due to be held in Exeter in April, with another planned for July in Falmouth.
