Evening gets under way with live link up to Hawaii by George Mojo

20/11/2006:// A late charge at the final BPSA event of the season in Cornwall earned Toby Atkins the overall open title.

The Hot Tuna European team rider took first place at the Gul Newquay Open to clinch top spot.

Defending champion Reubin Pearce's third place finish at Fistral Beach saw him end the season in second spot overall.

Fellow Headworx team-mate Matt Capel finished fourth in the rankings to add to his Pro Junior title win.

After the main event, the third annual FSO BPSA UK Surf Awards took place at the Esplanade Hotel in Newquay.

The evening started off with dinner followed by the actual awards. Highlights included a live link up in Hawaii with Newquay's Russell Winter, the end of year tour review DVD and the preview of Micah Lester's new movie MVP.

The awards celebrate British surfing in 2006 and the winners were as follows:

· Freerange Manoeuvre of the year - Alan Stokes.

· Soundworx most Inspirational Surfer - Lee Bartlett.

· Saltrock Rookie of the year - Fergal Smith (ireland.

· Fat Face Most Improved - Joss Ash.

· Gul Best Uk Surfer surfing Internationally - Russ Winter.

Island Style regional awards - Scotland: Chris Noble. Ireland: Mike Morgan. Channel Islands: Scott Eastwood. Wales: Nick Reid. England Llewellyn Whittaker.

· Headworx Riders Choice - Matt Capel.

· Surf Girl Best up and coming - Holly Donnelly.

· Carve Aerialist award - Ollie Adams.

· Pit Pilot Under Dog award - Shaun Skilton.

· Wavelength Most promising Junior - Jayce Robinson.

· Services to the sport - Ester Spears.

· Best Judge - Jamie Owen.

· 2006 BPSA Tour Champions Awards:
