Exhibition staged to celebrate the 40th birthday of the BSA

26/08/2006:// The BSA was founded in 1966 to promote the sport of surfing and represent the interests of all surfers in Great Britain and the Channel Islands
The exhibition is aimed at translating the power and magic of the ocean to canvas to capture the soul of British surfing over the past four decades.
The sports governing body is inviting submissions for inclusion in their first ever surf photography exhibition, to be held in London on Thursday 21st September.
The BSA's intention is to involve and include images from any photographers who have unique and inspiring images that have captured the imagination and record an iconic moment in the rich and diverse British surf culture over the past 40 years.
Photography plays a crucial role in surfing, with the most memorable images being the ones that capture the raw moments, showcasing why it is that we love the sport so much.
It could be an image of Rodney Sumpter winning the first ever British National Championships in 1969, surfing the Severn Bore, the British surf team meeting Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace, Viscount Ted Deerhurst becoming Britain's first pro surfer in 1978 or a group of groms gasping for breath after a grueling ride at Godrevy.
The 40 most iconic surf photographs selected, documenting the period 1966 - 2006, will then be officially unveiled at the London exhibition, to celebrate the BSA's 40th Birthday.
The photographs will then go on display at the BSA's official birthday party in Newquay on the 30th September.
If it is an original print/transparency it should be posted (with a SAE so the original photo can be returned after the exhibition) to: Spencer Claridge, BSA Gallery, Soul Sports, B5, Enterprise Point, Melbourne Street, Brighton, BN2 3LH.
The following accompanying information is ideally required for the image to be considered for inclusion in the exhibition: Photographers name, name of break/wave, name of surfer, the year the photograph was taken, and captions are optional.
Providing an open and democratic NGB with over ten thousand members, the BSA is a non-profit organisation with all income used for the advancement of British surfing.
