News Cut price entry for Boardmasters

[Mark Harris]

Organisers offer discounted entry for British surfers by George Mojo

28/07/2006:// With Britain's richest surfing event just days away, organisers are offering a discounted entry for British surfers wanting to compete against the world's best pro's.

The Rip Curl Boardmasters is a 5star World Qualifying Series being held at Newquay's Fistral Beach next week.

The regular entry fee is a big cost for surfers, however the event organisers, Sports Vision and title sponsor Rip Curl believe UK-based surfers get the opportunity to pit themselves against the World’s best in their own back yard.

This will give surfers from the UK’s only national Pro Tour, The British Professional Surfers Association (BPSA) Tour the chance to step up a level into the notoriously difficult WQS Tour to see what they are really made of.

BPSA surfers such as Rip Curl’s Mark Harris, Llewellyn Whittaker, current BPSA Tour champ and leader Reubin Pearce, Martin Black, Oli Adams and Nick Tiscoe.

Mark ‘Egor’ Harris, Rip Curl’s top UK pro has taken advantage of this offer: “I think it’s great that the Rip Curl Boardmasters have thought about us Brits and not just about the invading foreign pros. The entry fees are high but this discount leaves us no excuse not to enter. I’m really looking forward to next week and having a crack at the big boys! I made the third round two years ago and think I can do even better this time!"

BPSA and Contest Director Dave Reed said “This discounted entry gives our best homegrown talent the chance to have a real crack at a highly rated WQS. The level of surfing on the BPSA Tour is ever increasing with some of the surfers showing form that would not look out of place at the Rip Curl Boardmasters."

"By giving British surfers this opportunity we are letting them see the level needed to become a top pro surfer which will hopefully inspire them to better things!"

Any British based surfer wishing to take part must contact contest director Dave Reed.
