Jersey surfers are through in Channel Island's leg by George Mojo

24/06/2006:// Three Jersey surfers are through to the unofficial world championships after winning their respective divisions in the Channel Island's leg of the King of Groms.

More than 30 competitors took part in the competition held in 1-2ft surf at St Ouen's Beach.

U15's winner Jake Walker, U13's victor Matt Chapman and Delia Baker, who took the girl's U15's division, go through to the finals at Cap Breton, in South West France.

Former British champion Gabe Davies and Roxy surf team members Sophie Hellyer and Candice O'Donnell joined Jersey Surf in hosting the event.

Meanwhile, Fistral beach is gearing up for an invasion of keen young surfers for the third British qualifing event.

The event that will take place over the weekend of 1st and 2nd of July will feature boys and girls who are 15 years old and younger who will be surfing for a place in the World final.

With the presence of the major surfing nations such as Australia, Brazil, Indonesia, United States and the rest of Europe this is an opportunity to access high competitive standards and the experience gained with be invaluable.

The British Surfing Association is committed to the development of young surfers in Britain and happy to support Quiksilver with his event for the champions of the future.

Several surfers will be hoping to make an impact at the Cornwall event. Newquay's Jack Butler and fellow British Team member Stuart Campbell from Woolacombe will lock horns again and will surely be there in the mix.

The dark horse is Padstows Toby Donachie who is in blistering form at the moment.

The girls division will feature another British Team pair Swansea's Gwen Spurlock and Newquay's Holly Donnelly and well as newly crowned English champion Kathleen Spears from Croyde.
