For those of you who managed to surf in Imperial Beach on Monday, May 15, most likely all of you (unless you can't smell) smelt the overpowering stench of something in the water

18/05/2006:// Luckily the County of San Diego tested the water up and down the beach on mid-morning Monday and found that that the level of contaminants did not exceed state standards.
That doesn't mean they might not have hours before the water was tested. I did a very early dawn patrol (pre sunrise) on Monday and came in the smell was so bad. From our review of the TJ River sewage plume it looked the like the plume was moving really quickly and passed the Silver Strand.
So why did the water smell? There was a large sewage spill of some kind on Friday the 12th somewhere around Playas de Tijuana. Water was reported covering a road at Border Field and gulches south of Playas had been reported running by Gaviotas (an environmental group in TJ). I checked Border Field this morning and the water is still there.
And of course we have the ongoing sewage arroyo at San Antonio just north of Baja Malibu.
After a talk with the IB Blvd irregulars this morning the consensus of quite a few longtime (very longtime) IB local surfers was that the problem of south swell pollution (smells) is getting worse. What used to be an "end of south swell season" (after weeks of strong south current) seems to occur now only after a a south swell starts.
Since the population of Western Tijuana has dramatically increased over the past few years and the volume of sewage coming out of San Antonio has more than likely increased, it is pretty plausible that we are going to surf in smelly water in the summer a lot more than we used to when we have south swells.
And remember-- the BajaguaScam project in which Mexican developer Enrique Landa stands to make tens of millions of dollars from a sole source no bid project that won't work (that your tax dollars will pay for), won't deal with all with any of the sewage that pollutes our beaches from Western Tijuana.
But don't worry--Landa will make his profits courtesy of Uncle Sam. You can check out Landa's industrial park site at www.elflorido.com (this is the industrial park that Bajagua is designed to connect to).
And remember the idea of having a private company control wastewater treatment on the border comes from the same people who still believe that Enron and Sempra Energy are honest brokers.
So we can now finally very easily say that because Landa and his gang of scammers have blocked every attempt to clean up border sewage that does not involve their public welfare scam, that BAGUAGATE is really "BAJAGUA EL POLLUTER."
And it only cost Landa over $630,000 in campaign contributions to get elected officials in San Diego to support his project.
And think about this: Landa and the Bajagua Scammers could not afford to spend enough money bribing officials in Mexico to build a treatment plant to connect to the industrial park at El Florida, so Landa and his Tijuana cronies just jumped the border and paid off American politicians to make us pay for it. Smart dude.
And since most of the BajguaScam team spends their time between North County, Rancho Santa Fe and Eastern Tijuana-they don’t' have to deal with polluted beaches in IB and Coronado.
