News Save Trestles / Stop the Toll Road

It is still not too late to get our Governor to take action to save Trestles and San Onofre State Beach. by Serge Dedina

06/03/2006:// The City of Imperial Beach City Council is voting on a resolution on March 1st on whether or not to send a letter to our Governor against the TERRIBLE TRESTLES TOLL Road.

The Mayor and Council need to hear loud and clear that we support this resolution and that WE NEED TO STOP THE TOLL ROAD AND SAVE TRESTLES!

Resolution: As part of Consent Agenda (Means City will pass it--they just need to know they are supported).

ACTION ITEM: CITY OF IMPERIAL BEACH COUNCIL MEETING MARCH 1st, 2006

CITY OF IMPERIAL BEACH OPPOSITION TO A TOLL ROAD THROUGH SAN ONOFRE STATE BEACH. (0460-40) City Manager’s Recommendation: Approve sending the letter attached to the staff report to Governor Schwarzenegger.

HOW CAN YOU TAKE ACTION TO HELP!!

1. CONTACT the following Imperial Beach officials to ask them to support the resolution in order to save Trestles and San Onofre State Beach. Imperial Beach has one of the most pro-surfing and coastal protection councils and staff in the United States, but they need to hear from us!!!!!!

Imperial Beach Mayor Diane Rose at:
ibmayor@aol.com
Call: 619.423.8303
FAX:619.628.1395

AND:
Gary Brown, City Manager at:
gbrown@CityofIB.org

2. Join Wildcoast for Pizza and bring your boards for a SAVE TRESTLES MINI-RALLY at the City of Imperial Beach, City Hall Council Chambers and support the resolution, Wednesday, March 1st, 6:15pm

Location:
825 Imperial Beach Blvd
Imperial Beach, CA 91932

PLEASE NOTE:
Despite the recent decision by the Transportation Corridor Agency to approve a plan to construct the extension of the 241 Foothill South Toll Road along and through the San Mateo Creek watershed, through the Donna O'Neill Land Conservancy and San Onofre State Beach Park's San Mateo campground, and link up with Interstate 5 near Basilone Road, we are still supporting the efforts of the Surfrider Foundation, NRDC, Sierra Club, Friends of the Foothills and just about every surfer on the planet who has surfed Trestles and San-O and camped at San Mateo to oppose this project.
