News Imperial Beach now open north of Boca Rio

Most of our team was in central Baja last week, so we weren't here when it rained. But we did see a giant sewage plume off the Sloughs from Playas de TJ on Friday mid-morning. by Serge Dedina

09/01/2006:// Most of our team was in central Baja last week, so we weren't here when it rained. But we did see a giant sewage plume off the Sloughs from Playas de TJ on Friday mid-morning. In fact the plume extended from IB to Baja Malibu.

Imperial Beach is now open north of the Boca Rio. However there is still a lot of water in the Tijuana River, and we are going to investigate to find out why (it should be diverted).

NEW CLEAN WATER CAMPAIGN MANAGER
Ben Winkler-McCune is our new Coastal Conservation Program Manager and working directly on our Clean Water Campaign. Ben is originally from Santa Cruz, grew up surfing the Lane, is a good surfer and has been a Blacks/La Jolla reef regular since his UCSD undergrad days. He has lived and worked in Costa Rica and Peru and speaks fluent Spanish. Hopefully you will get a chance to meet Ben out in the water (in fact he is enjoying the offshore uncrowded peaks in IB at this moment.) We'll all be at the ASR coming up shortly.

We're all glad that all of you enjoyed the epic swell of 05/06 --definitely one of the memorable ones.
