News Polluted Water Advisory in Effect for IMPERIAL BEACH

The San Diego County Department of Environmental Health has issued a polluted water advisory for Imperial Beach. The advisory warns that water contact should be avoided at due to suspected water contamination. by Serge Dedina

20/06/2008:// The advisory is due to an unknown source of pollution that is detected by chlorine-type odors and has been a common occurrence during summer months. WiLDCOAST is working with DEH and the IB lifeguards to identify and eliminate this pollution. For more info contact info@wildcoast.net

Please send emails to our decision makers to urge them to support the 5 recommendations of the Tijuana River Citizens' Council for clean water for south San Diego County beaches!

1. Work on binational projects with Tijuana to reduce the flows of trash, sediment and wastewater across the border.

2. Prioritize the development of accepted pollutant levels (TMDLs) for California's portion of the Tijuana River watershed.

3. Increase collaboration among the County, City, State and Federal agencies with jurisdiction over the Tijuana River.

4. Carryout research to better understand the public health impacts of Tijuana River pollution.

5. Continue and expand the use of real-time technology to track the flow of Tijuana River contamination to proactively protect the health of beach users.

Every email, phone call and letter counts. They need to know that our communities can't wait any longer, we need clean water now!!!
