News Cornish aim to cool Welsh threat at Frostbite finals
[Sennen's Seb Smarth]
South To South Frostbite Series won't be told location for Grand Final until last moment
by George Mojo
18/04/2008:// Organisers are expecting excellent surf conditions in Cornwall over the weekend.
The final is the culmination of three rounds of competition to find Britain's top up-and-coming junior surfer.
Of the eight surfers competing, seven are from Cornwall and one from Newport in South Wales.
Bert Wright and Morgan Elston represent St Agnes; Jack Whitefield, Josh Pipe and Marcus Lascelles carry Newquay's hopes, Seb Smart will be surfing for Sennen, while Jack Whitefield will be flying the Gwithian flag.
The lone Welsh hope Robert Webster Blythe won the Porthmeor leg of the series.
A lack of contestable waves during February and March forced the postponement of the showdown twice.
Organiser Tyson Greenaway is keeping the location under wraps until the day and even the finalists don’t have a clue where they’ll be surfing.
"They’ve been told to meet at Chiverton Cross at 11.00 am, but as for the rest, well!. The forecast for the weekend is excellent, with a new swell coming through and with a light south-easterly wind. So far all three events have been held in great conditions, so hopefully it’ll be four in a row.".
Following the final, the eight youngsters will be going to Newquay for the prizegiving with the winner picking up a sponsorship deal offering the youngsters a vital stepping stone onto a future surfing career.
