Guernsey Surf Championships by George Mojo

05/09/2005:// The first Guernsey Surf Championships are to be staged in more than five years.

Organisers meet in two weeks' time to put the finishing touches to the event which is being staged at Vazon Beach, during the opening weekend of October.

It's expected there will be eight titles up for grabs from shortboard under 14s to Veteran's Over 45 as well as longboard and ladies' divisions.

A special expression session may also be held, depending on conditions.

The Guernsey Surf Club contest is restricted to members only.

The championships preceed the BBC Children In Need Charity Surf Challenge between Guernsey and Jersey, scheduled to take place at Vazon Bay on November 12 and 13.

Guernsey are the current holders after Jersey failed to send a team last year.
